Telling her that he is responding to her last letter rather than the one he just received because he wants to wait until he is alone to read her most recent letter; saying he won't address her informally using "tu"; alluding to a fable by La Fontaine; suggesting that they meet at her rooms so she can show him "toute nue" the truth of her feelings for him; returning her book and comparing his interest in reading the book to his interest in her.
